St George's Rowing club is one of
New Zealand's oldest rowing clubs
and has active schools, club and
Masters rowers.
It was established in 1883 at St George's
Bay, Parnell, Auckland making it New Zealand's second oldest rowing
club. The development of Auckland's waterfront forced
it to move home several times until in
1949 it relocated to Panmure, on the Tamaki River, where it remains today.
It remains a flourishing club
and in 2008, the year of its
125 anniversary, it was awarded the title of Rowing Club of the year by
the Auckland Rowing Association.
In 2008 - to celebrate its 125
year, St Georges re-established its
annual At Home Race - a popular event in the 19th Century.
The 2011 At Home will be held on the Tamaki
River on
17 September 2011.
