125 Anniversary

13-15 September 2008

In September 2008 St Georges Rowing Club celebrated it 125 anniversary with a weekend of events.

St George’s First Annual At Home Quads and Eights Regatta

In a modern revival of the popular "At Home" Regattas held by the club in the late 19th century St Georges organised a 5 Km race down the Tamaki River. The course started at Seaside Park, Otahuhu and finished immediately outside the club. 34 school, club and masters crews from all over Auckland and as far away as Whangarei took part. The success of the regatta has encouraged St Georges to make it an annual event

Anniversary dinner

The 125 Anniversary dinner was held on the evening of the 14th of September at Waipuna Lodge. Over 100  attended the dinner, with club members from every decade since the 1950 present.  Rower Rob Hammill kept guests entertained with his description of competing in the trans-Atlantic rowing race in 1997, which he won, with fellow rower Phil Stubbs in record time.
